Our commitment to transparency
Aris uses artificial intelligence at the core of its learning experience. We believe you have the right to understand exactly how AI is used, what content is generated by AI, and what limitations exist. This page explains all of that clearly.
AI models and providers
Aris uses the following AI technologies:
- Anthropic Claude — Powers conversational lesson delivery, career coaching, course generation from qualification searches, quiz and flashcard generation, simulation scoring, and study notes
- OpenAI — Used for course generation from uploaded PDF documents and real-time audio transcription during voice simulations
- ElevenLabs — Provides text-to-speech voice synthesis for simulation personas and AI-generated podcasts
We evaluate and update the models we use to ensure the best possible quality for your learning experience.
What is AI-generated
The following content within Aris is generated by artificial intelligence:
Lessons
All lesson content is delivered by an AI tutor in real-time conversation. The AI teaches based on the course structure, adapting its explanations, examples, and pace to your responses. Every lesson interaction is dynamically generated — not pre-written.
Quizzes and assessments
Quiz questions, exam simulations, and assessment feedback are AI-generated based on the content covered in your lessons. Questions are created to test understanding at varying difficulty levels. Detailed feedback explaining correct and incorrect answers is also AI-generated.
Flashcards
Flashcard sets are automatically generated by AI after each lesson, based on key concepts covered. Spaced repetition scheduling determines when cards are due for review.
Study notes
Condensed study guides are AI-generated summaries of course content, with emphasis on areas where your quiz performance indicates room for improvement.
Simulations and interviews
Scenario simulations and interview practice sessions are fully AI-powered. The AI personas respond dynamically to your input in real-time. Scored reports — including performance breakdowns, strengths, areas for improvement, and follow-up email tasks — are all AI-generated based on analysis of your session transcript.
Career coaching
Career advice, learning pathway recommendations, and coaching conversations are AI-generated based on your profile, progress, and stated career goals.
Podcasts
AI-generated podcast episodes are created after module completion. The script is written by AI based on module content and your quiz performance, then converted to audio using AI voice synthesis. The hosts are AI-generated voices, not real people.
What is NOT AI-generated
- YouTube videos — Educational videos surfaced during lessons are real videos from YouTube, found via search. Aris does not generate video content.
- Certification and exam information — Factual details about certification bodies, exam formats, and fees come from official public sources.
- Your uploaded content — When you upload a PDF or handbook, that source material is yours. The AI reads and structures it but does not alter the original content.
How courses are created
Aris offers two ways to create a course, each with different AI involvement:
Method 1: Upload your handbook (PDF)
You upload your own study material — a course handbook, textbook, or study guide. The AI reads the entire document, identifies its structure, and organises it into modules, lessons, and topics. The source content comes from your document. The AI structures and interprets it but does not invent new subject matter beyond what your document contains.
Method 2: Aris Generate (qualification search)
You tell Aris which qualification you're studying for. The AI searches credible public sources — official syllabi, awarding body websites, and published curriculum documents — then generates a complete course structure. This content is entirely AI-generated based on publicly available information. You review the generated structure before starting and can choose to regenerate it if needed.
Regardless of the creation method, all lessons are then delivered conversationally by the AI tutor in real-time.
Our commitment to accuracy
We take several steps to maintain content quality:
- AI tutoring is guided by structured pedagogical prompts designed to deliver accurate, concept-focused teaching
- For handbook-uploaded courses, the AI teaches from your verified source material — not from general knowledge
- For AI-generated courses, users review the full course structure before starting and can regenerate it if the structure does not meet their expectations
- All AI-generated course content displays a disclaimer within the app noting that it should be verified against official awarding body materials
- Quiz questions are generated from specific lesson content to ensure alignment with what was taught
Despite these measures, AI-generated content may contain errors or inaccuracies. Aris is a study aid and should be used alongside — not instead of — official study materials from the relevant certification body.
Your data and AI
- We do not use your personal data to train AI models. Your conversations, uploaded documents, and progress data are used solely to provide and personalise your learning experience within Aris.
- Conversation content is sent to our AI providers (Anthropic and OpenAI) in real-time to generate responses. These providers process the data under their respective data processing agreements and do not use it to train their models.
- Your uploaded PDFs are processed to generate course structures. They are stored securely and are not shared beyond the services required to process them.
For full details on data handling, see our Privacy Policy.
Voice and audio
During voice-based simulations and interviews, your spoken input is streamed to an AI transcription service and converted to text in real-time. The text transcript is stored. Raw audio recordings are not stored.
AI persona voices during simulations are generated using ElevenLabs voice synthesis. These are synthetic voices — they are not recordings of real people.
Known limitations
As with all AI systems, Aris has limitations you should be aware of:
- AI-generated content may occasionally be inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated — particularly for rapidly evolving certifications
- The AI may not always perfectly interpret complex or ambiguous source material from uploaded PDFs
- Simulation scoring is based on AI analysis and may not perfectly reflect the assessment criteria of a real-world evaluator
- Career coaching advice is AI-generated and should not be treated as professional career counselling
- Voice transcription accuracy depends on audio quality, accent, and background noise
We continuously improve our AI systems and welcome feedback at privacy@verdax.co.uk.
